What is Japara cotton fabric for?
Sometimes known as waxed cotton, Japara cotton was first developed as a way to make sailcloth cloaks much stronger for use in the shipping industry back in mid-19th century. Over the years, its production process has been greatly fine-tuned and a number of different uses of the fabric has later been developed to make Japara cotton fabric into popular and durable waterproof jackets for the navy, motorcyclists and outdoor sports lovers.
Interestingly, it has also somehow found its way to become a much sought-after premier fabric for mattress covers, pillow shells and duvet casings (that is, quilt/doona casings). This is because the tightly woven construction of Japara cotton fabric can effectively prevent sharp feather tips, tiny goose down quills or fine wool fibres from poking through the quilt casing or pillow shell, thus minimising some potential allergic reaction for many allergy sufferers.
What are the main benefits of Japara cotton?
Although Japara cotton with a thick and finely woven texture is much more expensive than regular cotton fabric, it is still definitely a very good investment for quality bedding products, especially if you are after a quality duvet/quilt/doona or pillow which is either wool-filled or goose down-filled. Unlike regular cotton that is much thinner, Japara cotton fabric can prevent the feathers or wool fibres from protruding through the duvet casing and pillow shell. Better still, it is hard-wearing and it does not pill.
With its water-repellent and stain-resistant property, waxed fabric like Japara cotton is also excellent in protecting your expensive mattress, duvet and pillows from the any liquid-based accidents that may occur. If you ever eat anything or drink anything on your bed, even water, it can be a catastrophe if you do not have a water-repellant fabric cover. This Japara cotton cover makes it possible for you to easily and quickly clean up any liquidy or fluid mess, without worrying about damage to your expensive investments.
What’s more, Japara cotton is a natural fabric that is highly durable, breathable and comfortable. Like normal cotton, it is a healthy choice for quilt casings or pillow shells as it allows moisture from the body to pass through and eliminates that clammy feeling, thus giving you a more restful night’s sleep.
Any number of materials may be used to craft sateen sheets, including cotton, polyester, rayon, and lyocell, each of which can influence the overall feel and appearance. A similar weave is used to craft satin, though satin typically uses silk or nylon.
While the materials play a major role, sateen sheets typically drape well, resist wrinkles, and have a silky finish with a slight sheen. Since they’re already smooth, owners may not need to iron them to achieve a wrinkle-free look and feel. Over time, however, sateen sheets could snag or develop pilling.
Sateen sheets often have a premium feel.
